A-Rod and The Curse of the Pink Panther

Visits: 0

Now that Boston has rid themselves of that ridiculous “Curse of the Bambino” with 2 World Series wins in the last 4 years (2004/2007), it’s time to find another cursed team to take their place.

Enter the New York Yankees! They haven’t won a World Series since beating out Boston (as fate would have it) and acquiring A-Rod. Granted, their drought has been since before A-Rod landed in the Bronx, they last won a World Series back in 2000.  They lost two World Series since then in 2001 and 2003, but have not been able to get that far in the playoffs since A-Rod came to NY for the 2004 season and they just resigned him long term.

There has been controversy surrounding him in 2004 with the fight with Boston catcher Jason Varitek, then the slapping the ball out of the glove of Boston pitcher Bronson Arroyo during the 2004 ALCS. Then there was the incidents in Toronto both on and off the field and the issues that arose around him and his wife (the T-Shirt incident, etc.) and the whole opting out of his contract which was announced during a World Series game between Boston and Colorado. Now there are allegations by former major leaguer Jose Canseco being leaked out from his forthcoming book supposedly connecting A-Rod with steroid use.

The following questions remain: is he worth it?! Is he indeed cursed? Can he produce in the post-season when his team needs his typical production the most or will he continue his playoff slump at the plate for his remaining years in NY?

If anyone of my readers has that picture of A-Rod (photoshopped in pink) running down the line in that 2004 ALCS game, slapping the ball out of Arroyo’s glove, would you mind sending it to me for this post? It would be greatly appreciated.
