Feller might have fallen short. I have suspected that missing those war years actually allowed Feller to enjoy the success he did in the late '40's. He had pitched so many innings since his late teens, with so many strikeouts and walks, that had he continued uninterrupted through the early '40's, he might have been finished by the age of 30 or31. As it was, his last really dominant year was at age 32. Wiliams and DiMaggio might well have attained numbers close to
