The Factor12 Rating (F12) is an analytic measurement utilizing league average performance to compare the value of all MLB pitchers on 60ft6in.com.

(1) Justin Verlander retains the number one F12 Rating despite having a mediocre outing (6IP 5ER) against the Boston Red Sox.  The 2011 AL Cy Young award winner currently holds a 31.937 Factor12 Rating.

(2) Gio Gonzalez has baffled opposing hitters in his last nine starts.  The left-hander has pitched 58 IP/ 26H/ 10ER/ 22BB/ 73K.  Gonzalez trails the top spot by only .407 points.

(3) Aroldis Chapman continues to dominate the opposition.  The Cincinnati Reds left-hander has not allowed an earned run in 26 innings this season.  Chapman has locked down the closing role in the Queen City.

(4) James McDonald has posted a career best 2.20 ERA and 0.96 WHIP through his first 10 starts of the 2012 campaign.  The Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander has quietly moved up the F12 ranking during the past few weeks.

(5) Jake Peavy rounds out the Top 5 despite allowing 7 earned runs in his last start against the Cleveland Indians.  The 2007 NL Cy Young award winner remains in the early running for some more hardware.
