Rumors
I have heard rumors that the Tigers are interested in SS Julio Lugo in exchange for either SP Dontrelle “D-Train” Willis or SP Nate Robertson. Theo, pull the trigger no matter which one of these guys they offer, but especially if it’s Robertson!
Are the Red Sox serious about acquiring 1B Mark Teixeira? Personally, I don’t [...]

After experiencing a closer by committee position last season, the Indians seem to be attempting to solidify that spot on their team with a former All Star during the off season.
The Indians have surprisingly become one of the teams that are vying for some of the major free agent closers in the game and claim [...]

The day before the beginning of the free agent signing period saw two more trades. One between the Yankees and White Sox while the other being between the Marlins and Cubs.
In the American League transaction, the Yankees aquired 1B/OF Nick Swisher and minor league pitcher Kaneoka Texeira from the White Sox in exchange for INF [...]

The Colorado Rockies, for some strange reason, have traded All-Star LF Matt Holliday to the Oakland A’s for SP Greg Smith, closer Huston Street and OF Carlos Gonzalez. You can see more details of this trade on ESPN.
For reactions of this move, please visit Athletics Nation posts entitled New Holliday Thread and The Matt Holliday [...]

Here are some new items to fill in your day from around baseball.
The Seattle Mariners are said to be interested in interviewing the Dodgers assistant GM. Why would this be newsworthy? Because Ms. Kim Ng would be the first woman to become a GM in Major League Baseball! What does USS Mariners have to say [...]

Going into his 11th year in MLB, “the Mayor”, as he is called by some fans, has done the unthinkable in the mind of today’s modern athlete. He has opted to take a lesser role to play on a winning team in contention for another World Series title (it would be their second in a [...]

Nathan, a regular reader here at Baseball Reflections, asked my opinion on the Ryan Howard arbitration situation.
Here’s what he said,
“What do you think about Ryan Howard’s arbitration awarding him $10 million??? Was it good for him (of course) but was it good for baseball (probably not) ??? It certainly changes the [...]

Sorry Phillies Phans, but with the acquisition of Johan Santana, the Mets now become the favorite to win the NL East in my opinion. That is, if the Mets can sign Santana to a contract extension within the allotted time frame. If this deal does go through, and there’s no reason why it won’t (everyone [...]

This is an article I found & I thought it was worth publishing on the site. This is one Tampa Bay Rays fan’s perspective, but I think Joe Gonzales, the author of the article below, has reason to be excited. Good for them! The Red Sox and Yankees could use the extra competition to stay sharp [...]

If I was Johan Santana and just wanted a World Series ring, I’d be in Twins GM Bill Smith’s ear about working out a trade to an American League (AL) team like the Red Sox, Yankees, Indians or Angels.
If I was Johan Santana and just wanted to be as successful as possible, I’d be [...]

Pete’s Perspective

Pete’s Winter Meeting Predictions
Johan Santana will no longer be a member of the Twins
Coco Crisp will either be tagged as the starting centerfielder for the Red Sox in 2008 or he will be on another team
Someone will show interest in closers Keith Foulke and Eric Gagne (possibly the Brewers, Giants or Braves)
We [...]

The Starting Rotation
The 2007 Braves rotation was not even close to what the fans in Atlanta have come to expect. Is this the affect of no longer having longtime pitching coach Leo Mazzone or do they just not have the talent that they once had and managed to always maintain? My vote lies [...]

Pete’s Perspective

The Usual Suspects
The players who supported the Braves offense in past years, did so again in 2007…with a little help from their youth movement. Chipper Jones was his typical offensive self despite trips on the DL due to arm and wrist woes. See his numbers below. The only question I have [...]

Starting Pitchers:
Second year pitcher John Maine might not have been the Met’s first choice as the Ace of their staff, but despite his decline in the second half of 2007, his numbers dictate that he was at least in the running. Maine’s VORP was the [...]
