Biggest MLB Offseason Moves So Far
- Updated: January 20, 2021

While many incredible moments on the field during the Major League Baseball season make headlines, a lot of focus is put on the moves made in the offseason. This is because these signs and trades determine who will be coming back in the next season and for what teams. Teams take advantage of the offseason to acquire choice players, swap out underperforming ones, and get the best financial deals possible.
Fans, on the other hand, watch the offseason carefully to known where their favorite players will be heading off to next, hedge their bets on platforms on casino sites not on Gamestop
and prep for the incoming season. The 2020/2021 offseason has been an interesting one, with some big moves made so far, some of which are as follows:
- James McCann Signs with the Mets: McCann’s career trajectory has been certainly one to watch. Just a few years ago, he was non-tendered by the Tigers following several seasons of lackluster performances and is now looking at a four year deal with the Mets worth $40.6 million.
There is a good reason for this change in fortunes, however, as his play during this most recent season has been improved, with more positive pitching and stats of (.289/.360/.536). Considering that many had predicted only a 2-year deal for him, this move is remarkable.
- Hunter Renfroe signs with Red Sox: Renfroe had previously played for Tampa Bay and overall, is ranked as a decent outfielder. While his new deal with the Red Sox is to last only a year, the team has the option to keep him for an additional two years if they are satisfied with his performances.
In the last season, this performance has not been overly noteworthy but fans of Renfroe have faith in his ability to improve with time.
- Ha-Seong Kim signs to the Padres: This $28 million, 4-year deal sees the Padres acquire Kim from the Korea Baseball Organization, along with a $5 million fee to the Kiwoom Heroes, his former team. This was part of a long list of big and expensive moves made by the Padres in the most recent offseason.
While Kim is certainly expensive, his talent speaks for itself as he achieved .306/.397/.523 along with 30 home runs during his time with his now-former team. A power move in itself, fans will watch intently to see how he fares with the Padres.
- Robbie Grossman signs with the Tigers: This deal breaks a five-year streak during which the Tigers did not sign any free agents to multi-year deals. With Grossman, the outfielder will be joining the team in a $10 million 2-year deal. While he might not be most impressive in the game at the moment, he posted .344 OBP in the 2020 season, which is higher than the .306 posted by the current Tigers outfielders.
The upcoming MLB season is heating to be one of the most explosive in recent memory thanks to the exciting above deals.
