Back in August 21, 1981 Salvador Sanchez (Mexico) was defending his Featherweight Title against Wilfredo Gomez (Puerto Rico). That day Sanchez knocked out Gomez in Eight Rounds!
This past February 8th 2014, the spirit of Sanchez was present: Team Mexico with good pitching, clutch hitting defeated Team Puerto Rico with a score of 7-1 thus becoming 2014 Caribbean World Series Champions!
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 6th inning then Mexico came out swinging like former Boxing Champion Julio Caesar Chavez. Scoring two runs on Singles, then the big blow a Grand Slam Home Run by Sebastian Valle and there she wrote! Adding another run in the bottom of the 8th inning making the score 7-0.
Puerto Rico started to rally on top of the 9th inning managing to score one run, yet Mexico held on and the final score 7-1 winning the Caribbean World Series for the Second Straight Year. After seeing the performance of this team one has to wonder are American scouts seeing this?
