These weekly posts of mine have been based on a rotisserie format using a traditional 5×5 scoring system to keep things simple.

Personally I prefer more statistics in my leagues (which is why I was the commissioner in one of my leagues), but in order to reach the most readers we will just stick with the basic. But, feel free to either e-mail me or leave a comment in this post if you have specific questions. If I don’t reply to the comment, then ping me in an e-mail, too!

We will go around the horn in this series after skipping the pitcher’s position.

And remember, just because a player had a good fantasy season in 2009, it doesn’t mean he will have another one in 2010 and beyond. Sometimes you need to look into the player’s past and see if he is showing signs of decline over a few years.

Please Note: The 5×5 stats listed below are as follows in this order Runs/HR/RBI/SB/Ave and the number in parenthesis is the player’s age

10 — Jason Kubel (27) Twins; Also qualifies as DH and LF

73/28/103/1/.300

He is proving to be a real deal with 28 HR 103 RBI and a .300 average. The fact that he also qualifies at DH and LF can be an added bonus for some.

9 — Denard Span (25) Twins; Also qualifies as CF and LF

97/8/68/23/.311

His strengths are his ability to score runs and steal bases while maintaining an average north of .300 and he qualifies at all three OF positions depending on your league

8 — Andre Ethier (27) Dodgers

92/31/106/6/.272

Personally I think he should be higher on this list, but it looks as if his average hurt him based upon the formula I used. I may need to rethink it before doing the 2010 Fantasy Draft Preview next week.

7 — Nick Markakis (25) Orioles

94/18/101/6/.293

On a team as challenged as the Orioles are it is very impressive to see Markakis score 94 runs AND knock in 101 RBI without hitting over 20 HR

6 — Shin-Soo Choo (26) Indians; Also qualifies at LF

87/20/86/21/.300

Choo must have been the ultimate 2009 sleeper. I don’t know anyone who had him on their radar before the season, let alone become a member of the elusive 20/20 club and he qualifies at the corner OF positions depending on your league

5 — Justin Upton (21) Diamondbacks

84/26/86/20/.300

I can’t believe this kid is ONLY 21 years old! Another 20/20 club member who can hit .300 (like Choo)

4 — Jayson Werth (30) Phillies

98/36/99/20/.268

Almost 200 runs scored and knocked in with 36 HR AND 20 stolen bases, but if he had a better average he’d compete for the best spot on this list

3 — Ben Zobrist (28) Rays; Also qualifies at 2B

91/27/91/17/.297

His average puts him in the third spot on this list, otherwise Werth would have had him beat

2 — Ichiro Suzuki (35) Mariners

88/11/46/26/.352

Having the second highest average in the AL and possibly the majors along with his stolen bases puts him in second, but nothing else really jumps out at you

1 — Bobby Abreu (35) Angels

96/15/103/30/.293

What Abreu lacks in average to Ichiro, he makes up for in every other category

Michael Cuddyer (30) Twins; Also qualifies at 1B

93/32/94/6/.276

Adam Dunn (29) Nationals; Also qualifies at 1B and LF
