Francisco Lindor gave the Mets a first walk off win in the tenth inning against a red hot in form Giants in Citi Field. The reigning National League West-champion Giants were a hard test for Mets but Lindor conjured what they needed to win

Mets Early Season Test

The Mets vs Giants showdown was game one of the doubleheader fixtures where Metz clinched a 5-4 victory over the Giants. The Mets almost crumbled after giving a go ahead run which the umpiring crew later ruled out.

At close review, Pete Alonso had kept his foot on the first base which was enough to coral Lindor’s wide throw to first base. The dramatic play was enough to see the Mets earn a draw and gave them the opportunity to walk the game off.

Lindor was the standout star with two RBIs on the day, making it 9 RBIs in 12 games. Manager Buck Showalter commended Lindor’s efforts. Showalter said, “Lindor seems to be dealing up with what we need every time.”

In the opening moments of the game Mets trailed 4-1 to the Giants. But a quickfire turnaround display from Alex Cobb, Travis Jankowski, James McCann and the game winner Lindor proved to be enough for Showalter’s men.

The Giants responded with a righty of their own. Right-handed reliever Dominic Leone stopped a game tying hit by Brandon which only made things worse. Lindor stepped in with a cutter down the middle and away from Leone’s favored side which lined up his two RBIs. The game was tied at 4-4 with nerves on both ends starting to get the better of the players.

Lindor and Tylor: The Mets Winning Duo

Tylor Megill was partly to blame for the slow start in the game. But we didn’t expect things to get off to a hot start against the Giants. The righty wasn’t even close to her best but she grew into the game.

Tylor Megill led four runs over the first three innings. But he made up for it in the later minutes of the game by overseeing three consecutive shutout innings that set up the stage for Lindor’s walk off single. Tylor Megil recognized his dip in fastball velocity and had this to say, “Obviously, things didn’t get off to a hot start, but I settled in nicely toward the end,” Megill said. “That’s what it’s all about, the team just grinding at-bats. … Look what happened. We came back and we won.”

The dynamic duo propelled Mets to victory and Buck Showalter will be banking on his men to eke out exceptional extra inning performance for the tough fixtures they are heading into. Albeit Lindor bathing in all the limelight, we took a little time to check the supporting cast who make the Mets a formidable team.

Outlook

Sensational Francisco Lindor seems to be the game changer this season for the Mets. The Mets’ bats were awfully quiet but they grew into the game to earn victory. The Mets are now 8-3 on the season and will go for the sweep in the nightcap of the double header.
