April’s Top 9 Hitters By Position

Here’s a look at the top players per position for the month of April. We have included the top 3 outfielders rather than list them by LF, CF & RF. Admittedly this is a little late and next month I’ll try to get this to you quicker, but for now, I hope you enjoy this look back into April’s hot starters.
The top hitting catcher was Indian’s Victor Martinez after an injury plagued 2008, he has bounced back right away hitting .388 with 17 R, 5 HR and 13 RBI.
At 1B is the apple of LaRussa’s eye, Cardinal Albert Pujols with his .356 average, 25 R, 9 HR, 29 RBI and 4 SB. Pujols, per my metrics, toped all hitters in the month of April with these numbers.
At 2B is the Ranger’s Ian Kinsler who had his 2008 campaign cut short due to injury, but has hit .337, 23 R, 9 HR, 25 RBI and 7 SB. He comes within points of Pujols for the month of April.
The representative for 3B is the bright Ray out of Tampa Bay, Evan Longoria who hit .365 with 20 R, 7 HR, 30 RBI and 1 SB. He may also end up winning a gold glove this year, too.
April was weak for all SS, but at the top of the list was the Blue Jays Marcos Scutaro with an average of .267 with 24 R, 5 HR, 16 RBI and 2 SB.
The top three outfielders are all east coast players with 2 coming from Baltimore and the other from Philly. All three players are separated by only 1.5 points. Actually, the top 3 OF happen to come from each of the 3 OF position, too! Here they are in order: The Orioles CF Adam Jones who hit .355 with 28 R, 5 HR, 19 RBI and 3 SB; Orioles RF Nick Markakis with his .358 average with 27 R, 3 HR and 24 RBI; and Phillies LF Raul Ibanez who is making the fans there forget about Pat Burrell as Ibanez hit .360 with 21 R, 8 HR, 21 RBI and 3 SB in April.
In the AL DH position we have Toronto’s Adam Lind with his .311 average with 16 R, 5 HR and 23 RBI.
Next month we’ll try to have the best hitters to off set the AL’s DH. I wanted them to get warmed up seeing they don’t hit every day like these 9 guys do!
