The plot is set back in 1946 when Branch Rickey, played by Ford, takes a stand against racism by heiring Jacki Robinson. Rickey is the legendary manager for the Brooklyn Dodger who defies the color barrier in major league baseball. This act puts both him and his new player in the spotlight, where the public and the press are not happy to see them. But Rickey does not care, he demonstrates by keeping Robinson on the team, letting his talent speak for itself.
The Pride of the Yankees
This is one of the older baseball movies out there. It was released in the theaters in 1943 but was up for modern day streaming in 2016. The film tells the moving drama about the beloved baseball player Lou Gehrig, played by Gary Cooper. He gets recruited to the New York Yankees, joining a team of legendary and world-famous player. One of whom is the popular Babe Ruth. Times are looking good for Gehrig, and he is at his happiest when he marries his sweetheart Eleanor, played by Theresa Wright. However, this is about to take a turn when he gets sick by a terrible illness that he now has to battle.
