The Draft

While everyone schedules their respective days around the NFL and NBA drafts, even some die hard sports fans are unaware when the MLB draft even takes place.

There are always going to be problems of getting people to pay attention to the draft because it has so many rounds with so many players, but the least the league could do would be to push the first two rounds of the draft to a time where people who have jobs can watch them.

Right now, the draft starts during the middle of the day in the middle of the week. Last year was the first year for the draft to be on television and not that many people watched on television or even at the venue.

There are never going to be as many people tuning into the baseball draft, but that’s partly because the players drafted don’t make it to the big leagues until at least three years down the road (save for a few exceptions).

People watch the other drafts partly because of the immediate impact they have and partly because they are at a convenient time.

Baseball can fix one of those, but will they?
