What’s Wrong With Adrian Gonzalez?

In the last 30 seasons plus, only four other Red Sox players have accomplished a season that was comparable to Adrian Gonzalez’s first season in Boston, where he hit .338 and smashed 27 home runs. In order, the players who had seasons of hitting at least .330 with at least 25 home runs were Mo Vaughn (1998), Nomar Garciaparra (1999), Manny Ramirez (2002) and David Ortiz (2007). Four times in 32 seasons that someone accomplished that type of season before Gonzalez. The great Jim Rice never did it. Wade Boggs never did it. Dwight Evans never did either. The question Red Sox fans are asking themselves now is: What happened to Gonzalez?
