Padres fans can at least cheer about one thing this time of year, and that is the hitting display being put on by 1B Adrian Gonzalez. Last week he hit 3 HRs and knocked in 11 RBIs while hitting for a .370 average with an OBP of .414
The Brewers are still pushing for a NL Wild Card berth and helping them to that goal in these last few weeks is 1B Prince Fielder. He also hit 3 HRs and knocked in 11 RBIs while hitting for a .462 average with an OBP of .533
Although the Marlins are not numerically eliminated yet, their chances do not look great, but 3B Jorge Cantu is continuing to hit well in 2008. Last week he also hit 3 HRs and knocked in 10 RBIs while hitting for a .385 average with an OBP of .448
The Tigers have had a disappointing season and even 1B Miguel Cabrera has played under expectations, but he did have another good week. He’s coming off of a week where he hit 3 HRs while hitting .407
In an attempt to catch the first place Rays, Red Sox DH David Ortiz had a monster week hitting 4 HRs with 10 RBIs.
Rounding out the top 10 hitters of last week are the Rays 1B Carlos Pena (3 HR, 11 RBI, .368 BA, .500 OBP); Indians RF Shin-Soo Choo (3 HR, 10 RBI, .429 BA, .500 OBP); Pirate’s 1B Adam LaRoche (4 HR, .400 OBP); Mets SS Jose Reyes (2 HR, 2 SB); Rays rookie of the year candidate who just came off the DL this past week, 3B Evan Longoria whose 3 HRs came in one game.
