In the News…

  • The Detroit Tigers & the Atlanta Braves wasted no time in striking a deal for the first trade of the season (The Tigers do it again, as they did last year). The Tigers get SS Edgar Renteria (32) & cash for up & coming right-handed starter Jair Jurrjens along with minor league OF Gorkys Hernandez.

    •  Jurrjens went 3-1 in 30.2 innings in 7 starts with Detroit since August 15th. He went on the 15-day DL on August 28th (went 2-1 prior to the DL) & was reactivated on September 11th . (went 2-0 with 2 no decisions after the DL). He had an ERA of 4.70 & a WHIP of 1.14 while holding opponents to a .220 BA.
    • Renteria hit .332 with 12 homers and 57 RBIs in his second year in Atlanta and will be replaced at SS by 25 year old Yunel Escobar who hit .326 5 HRs 28 RBIs with a .385 OBP over 94 games at 2B, 3B & SS while the Tigers will be moving Carlos Guillen who hit .296 21 HRs 102 RBIs with a .357 OBP will be moved to 1B replacing Sean Casey who hit .296 with 4  HRs 54 RBIs with a .353 OBP. Casey will be a free agent & is obviously not resigning in Detroit.
