Today we are talking about MLB players born in New Jersey, “the Garden State”. Unlike R.I. which had only 117 players, NJ has a combined 672 (440 position players & 232 pitchers – one of them being Scott Schoeneweis who went to the same HS as my wife, but they didn’t know each other).
Therefore, your odds of making it to the BIG Leagues if you were born in NJ are better than those from RI, but the odds are still against you! If you are a betting man (or woman) from NJ you might be interested in the bet365 bonus code NJ for all of your betting needs. Now, back to our list. NJ has four (4) players who made the Hall of Fame, but none of them are pitchers. Probably the most recognized name to the modern baseball fan would be former Yankee captain, SS Derek Jeter who played 20 years from 1995 to 2014. He played in 14 All Star games, 2,747 total games, scored 1,923 Runs, 3,465 Hits, 544 Doubles, 260 HRs, 1,311 RBIs, 358 SBs, 1,840 Walks while hitting for a .310 BA, .377 OBP and a WAR of 71.29. Next we have Goose Goslin who played 18 years from 1921 to 1938 – played in 1 All Star game, scored 1,482 Runs, 500 Doubles, 173 Triples, 248 HRs, 1,612 RBIs, 176 SBs with a .316 BA, .387 OBP and a WAR of 66.12. The next player, by years played, is Joe Medwick who played 17 years from 1932 to 1948 who played in 10 All Star games, scored 1,198 Runs, 540 Doubles, 113 Triples, 205 HRs, 1,383 RBIs with a .324 BA and a WAR of 54.46. Last there is Billy Hamilton (no, not the former Red, current White Sox player) who played 14 years from 1888 to 1901. He scored 1,697 Runs, 2,164 Hits, had 914 SBs, 1,189 Walks with a .344 BA, a .455 OBP and a WAR of 63.17.
Other notable players from NJ are Al Leiter, Rick Cerone and Rick Porcello.
