What To Watch For At Winter Meetings

The Toronto Blue Jays have already made a massive splash this offseason and it will be hard for anyone to top their moves after they pillaged the Florida Marlins roster. However, the MLB winter meetings are coming up and you can expect a number of hot stove conversations to start taking place.
There are a slew of quality players on the market, including one elite starting pitcher and one elite hitter. Zack Greinke will be at the top of many wish lists this offseason but don’t expect the Boston Red Sox or New York Yankees to be in play. He doesn’t like the spotlight shining on him too much, so teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Angels, the Texas Rangers and Washington Nationals to be among the biggest players.
At the plate, Josh Hamilton will be the prize of the class and it’s uncertain exactly where he’ll land. The Rangers would obviously love to have him back but a number of other players – like the Boston Red Sox – might be in play. His agent has been very coy and it’s hard to gauge who is interested right now – although many teams will be.
The consolation prizes in the outfield will be B.J. Upton, who is not likely coming back to Tampa Bay and Nick Swisher, who is not likely to return to New York. Look for teams like the Red Sox, Rangers, Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies to be in the mix.
Mike Napoli figures to be a hot commodity too as he jacked 24 home runs last season. The Red Sox could use an upgrade at catcher and rumors have tied those two sides together.
The winter meetings are about to get underway shortly and it should be very interesting to see where the big names land.
