Red Sox are in First Place in the AL East

With most teams still close to a week away, the Red Sox won game one of their regular season this morning in the US, while it was evening in Japan, against the A’s. It was not pretty, they were down 2-0; then went up 3-2 only to find themselves down 4-3 in less than an inning; then tied it at 4 with a Brandon Moss (RF) solo shot in the top of the 9th and he was a last minute replacement for the oft-injured J.D. Drew (back spasms). Then they went ahead 6-4 in the top of the 10th and had a brief scare in the bottom of the inning when closer phenom Jonathan Papelbon gave up a walk to lead off the inning, then a run scoring double to start things off before finally closing out the game after giving up another hit. Final score: 6-5.
Hideki Okajima got the win (1-0), Papelbon the save (1) and Street suffered the loss (0-1).
Tomorrow’s game sees Jon Lester (Bos) against Rich Harden (Oak); again in Japan at the Tokyo Dome!
