Most NY baseball fans were focused on the Yankees/ Mets series over the weekend. Of course, the Yankees finished off a three game sweep over the Mets with a walk-off 5-4 win in the bottom of the 9th inning on Sunday. I attended all three games in Trenton between the Thunder and the Mets. It started with a 9-7 win by the Mets on Friday. Saturday was a 12-0 win by the Mets and Sunday resulted in a 3-2 win by the Thunder in 10 innings.

Zach Wheeler pitched on Thursday so I did not get to see him pitch. There was,  however, very good starting pitching all three games for Binghamton. Gonzalez Germen, who I did not know about before I Friday, pitched 7 solid innings giving up 2 runs. Ryan Fraser, whom I had seen last season pitching for Class low A Savannah, got roughed up making his AA debut giving up 4 runs in 2/3 IP. Robert Carson pitched the last 1 1/3 IP, giving up a run, but getting the save. Darin Gorski has struggled this year, but he looked great on Saturday pitching 8 shutout innings leading the Mets to the easy victory. The lefty gave up 7 hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two. On Sunday, Greg Peavey got the start. Greg was a guest on my weekly baseball show “Passed Ball” in early March. He pitched 5 innings and gave up 1 run, striking out three.

Matt den Dekker continued his hitting, raising his average to .340 in the series. He was 9-14 in the series, including a 5-5 on Saturday. Eric Campbell had a 2 HR game on Saturday, raising his average to .321. 3B Jeffre Marte had a 3-run HR in the 1st inning on Friday, but left Saturday’s game with an injury and did not play Sunday. 2B Reese Havens continued his struggled going 3-15 in the series, including a HR on Saturday. He also made an error and showed little arm strength after ranging to his right. He is hitting .167 in 114 AB this season.
