For the next month or so we will be highlighting some products, companies or sites in an attempt to supply you, the loyal Baseball Reflections readers, with some holiday gift ideas for the baseball player(s) in your life.
Meyvn Baseball Company
If you’re like me, you’ll want to know why co-founders Richie Benes and Merrell Ligons named the company Meyvn. Here’s what I found out from their About Us page on their website.
A Meyvn is a trusted expert in a particular field, who seeks to pass knowledge on to others.
Their business focus is o the up and coming player and the reason why they started this company can be found out by reading the remaining lines in their description of what a Meyvn is…
We are former professional baseball players that have come from the trenches of the baseball battlefields and have experienced many different qualities in equipment. Our passion for the game has led us to want to provide the best quality in comfort, style, and affordability to upcoming and establish ball players. We are very excited to start this new revoultion of quality and game…We invite anyone who is ready to make the impact with us… Become a Meyvn…
Richie, one of the founders, e-mailed me this extra tidbit of information about their gloves.
Our demographic is the young kids and HS players because we make the pro quality lightweight gloves that are easy to break in which is what they want on the field. The features in our gloves are very important to aspiring players because it increases their hand speed on defense. We also make these gloves affordable, we want players to know they don’t have to pay the high price for a pro glove.
Our gloves are also in the hands of minor league players and independent league players because they heard of us through other players and became interested in us.Our focus is not getting the gloves on major leaguers, though we would not turn down the opportunity, but we want to provide the younger generation a product that will make a difference on the field and in the mind whether they realize it or not.
Here’s the bio of these two men from that same page on their site.
We’re Baseball Players first and Business People Second.

Merrell Holds a Bachelors degree in Management Information Systems and a minor in Economics from Eastern Washington University.Richie Benes is the VP of Marketing of Meyvn Baseball Company. Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, Richie was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 1996 June Amateur Draft. He played 2nd base in the minor leagues for the KC Royals for 3 seasons as a teammate of Merrell and went on to play independent professional baseball for organizations in the Northern League, Can-Am League, American Association, and the Victorian League in Melbourne, Australia.
Richie has also had a career in the fashion industry working with top clothing enterprises like Sean John, which is owned by Sean”P Diddy” Combs, Vokal, owned by rapper and entrepreneur Nelly and the artist driven brand called Tank Theory Original Artifacts.
Richie went on to say the following about he and his partner about their experience growing up and how it affected them and why they started the business…
Both my partner and I grew up with “hand me down” gloves, we never had a new glove to enjoy until our 1st year of pro ball and we when we did get that glove, it took a long time to use in the game because it was difficult to break in. The other issues we had were the glove was too heavy and our families couldn’t afford it. We know there are many players like us out there and we want to be able to contribute to their playing career.
Now, onto the gloves themselves!
