5 Best Winning Streaks In MLB History

When your favorite team is plowing through a winning streak, there is no feeling like it. Since 1876 we have watched baseball professionals push through to unexpected wins or dominate in the field.

And ever since daily fantasy baseball has become a thing, every one of us has been hoping for a winning streak so our MLB DFS picks can rake in some points!

Today we want to show you the best streaks through MLB’s history, so you can re-experience the highs of these phenomenal players.

  1. Longest Winning Streak Ever – New York Giants – 26 Games

The longest winning streak ever started right at the beginning of Major League Baseball’s history. This mighty team won 26 games in a row beginning in 1916! Even now, over a century later, this magnitude of undefeated talent has not been achieved again.

In 2017 the Cleveland Indians almost knocked the Giants off this pedestal but didn’t make it to the final hurdle. We will talk more about them later, but imagine if, almost exactly a century later, the title had been taken away from the New York Giants. It would have been symbolic of the changing times.

Alas, the New York team has to hold on to their title until another ceremonious year comes upon them!

  1. Lost By The Reigning Champions – Cleveland Indians – 22 Games

As we mentioned earlier, in 2017, the Cleveland Indians were on the warpath. They were smashing through every game as if they were always this power-hungry troop. With everything going their way, many bookies predicted that Cleveland would snap up a 102 – win season.

With just 5 games to go until the Indian’s could claim their title, the game which would cement their entitlement was coming. Cleveland Indians versus the New York Giants. If Cleveland could beat the reigning champions, it would have powered them through to the last 4 games.

But, the New York Giants knew this too and battled against all odds to stop the Indian’s breaching their defenses.

In a game like no other, the Giants stood their ground, forcing their opponents to claim defeat for the first time in 22 games.

  1. Most Consecutive Games With A Homer – New York Yankees – 31 Games

A homer or a home run is the best outcome for any baseball batter. It’s a sign of precision, power, and fair play, which are characteristics that every player should be aiming for.

Achieving a home run game after game proves to everyone on the field and sitting at home just how phenomenal a player you are. None can catch you!

In 2019, the New York Yankees produced a whopping 306 home runs. They were just 1 homer away from beating the Minnesota Twins, who managed a mind-blowing 307 in the same year. However, the Yankees had something the Twins didn’t – consistent play.

The Yankee’s managed to achieve at least one home run per game for 31 games! The second most consecutive homers were in 2002, with 27 home runs by the Texas Rangers. This means that the Yankees not only earned this feat, but they smashed it out of the park!

  1. State Rivalry And Petty Name Changes – Chicago Cubs – 21 Games

Although we know this much-loved team as the Chicago Cubs now, they were originally named the Chicago White Stockings in 1870. This aggressive team was the first-ever winner of the MLB, and it was this power that pushed them to victory claiming 21 wins through the season of 1880.

However, this name change grew from controversy. There is a second baseball team in Chicago named the White Sox. This name was chosen on purpose as one team split into two. The White Stockings and the White Sox were rivals born from the same state, but the Stockings wanted to push themselves away from their petty neighbors and took the high ground, choosing the name Cubs instead.

  1. Founding Franchise Come For The Throne – Oakland Athletics – 20 Games

The Athletics were not always an Oakland as they were originally created in 1901 Philadelphia. Still, this powerful team was one of the founding franchises of the American League, and their manager Connie Mack is the longest-serving MLB manager in history.

History won’t win you points, though, so we jump over to the 2002 season, where the Athletics have moved to Oakland, California. During this year, the Athletics really earned their name and won every game from August to September, resulting in an impressive record of 20 wins in a row!

  1. Bonus – Biggest Losing Streak – Philadelphia Phillies – 23 Games

As there are winners, there must also be losers. The Phillies, unfortunately, take the title of the longest losing streak, having lost 23 games in a row during their 1961 season.

Of course, this meant they lost the entire season, but the second-lowest team that year was still 17 games ahead of them.
