Will Last Minute Trades Sway MLB Bettors?

Heading into the “dog days of summer,” more than the weather is heating up. With MLB sitting a little over a week from the trade deadline, things are starting to reach a fever pitch. In the next couple of days, pretty much every team will have decided if they are buyers, sellers or going to stand pat. Let’s take a look at probable buyers. Among the teams that will most likely be buyers are the usual suspects.
While fans will be watching the wires, sports bettors will be looking for one last shot at the future book. This is the first year for WV online sports betting and the first chance for sports gambling residents to get caught up in trade fever. There will be a trade that moves the odds. The most astute sports bettors will be looking to anticipate a transaction before the rumours become reality. It’s risky but if it wasn’t risky, everyone would be doing it.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will likely be looking to build its bullpen for the stretch run. The current bullpen’s ERA of just over 4.00 has to be a little concerning. While the Dodgers currently have the best overall ERA in the league, that’s largely because of the amazing efforts of Hyun-jin Ryu and Clayton Kershaw who both have sub-3.00 ERAs.
If the Chicago Cubs have any inkling of matching the Dodgers in the playoffs, they need to be looking for a little help in the bullpen as well. The problem is they seem to be focusing on bats to provide a little more depth on offense. Without the proper focus, the Cubs could be set for a late season fall.
The Atlanta Braves have set sail with a fantastic group of young offensive players at the helm. The offense gets a big checkmark with reliable veteran Freddie Freeman sitting in the middle of the lineup. The problem the Braves have is they don’t have the arms for a World Series title. They need both starters and more bullpen help. If the San Francisco Giants are ready to shop Madison Baumgarner, he would be a great fit. Unfortunately, the Braves organization has never been one to deplete its farm system or spend big money on free agency.
In the American league, all eyes are on the AL East. Both the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will be shopping in the same store before the trade deadline. It’s a good bet both teams are waiting to what the Giants are doing with Baumgarner and the Cleveland Indians are doing with Trevor Bauer. Both the Yankees and Sox need starting pitching and have shown no shyness when it comes to making a big jump when a potential World Series title in on the line. Don’t forget about the Tampa Bay Rays. They don’t have the financial resources or a high free agency profile, but they have used the trade deadline to score some great talent in the past. The fact they are sitting right there with the Red Sox for a wild card spot might be enough to get them to be buyers.
