MLB 2021 World Series Top Rated Teams

Visits: 2

We finally surpassed the halfway point in the 2021 MLB season. The LA Dodgers are still the odds-on favorites to win the World Series at Fox Bet sportsbook that is currently offering appealing odds at +400. It’s actually surprising that the SF Giants haven’t moved further up the odd boards, as they had taken the lead in the NL West just a couple of days before the All-Star break and have not relinquished the lead, nor the best record in the MLB.

Top Rated Teams Today

The top five teams at my most trusted power ratings site are:

  • The LA Dodgers
  • The San Diego Padres
  • The Houston Astros
  • The Toronto Blue Jays
  • And the NY Yankees

So, why are the Giants not rated higher? Well, partly it’s because the simulations and computer models simply don’t say so. But that doesn’t tell us why the team with the best record in the league hasn’t moved up the futures board ladder.

The reason is that the top handicappers in the world don’t think they have what it takes to sustain this kind of winning. Remember, baseball is a grind. Each team might play for nearly two weeks without a day off. Or they get a day off … but not really because that day is spent on plains and busses traversing the Continental United States and up into the Toronto area.

Now, Toronto isn’t really a contender to win the World Series. However, they are a tough team to beat and they are rated as the 5th toughest team in the league. That said, they sit under the Boston Red Sox, the TB Rays, and the NY Yankees in the AL East. So, the likelihood of them making it through the playoffs to the World Series is just 3.0%.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are actually worse off probability-wise, with just a 2.6% chance at winning the Fall Classic. The Boston Red Sox are better, at 5.2% but you might be surprised at who comes in No. 4 on the list of the highest percentage of chance to win the WS in October

World Series Winners

The most probably teams to win the 2021 World Series from a statistical angle are:

  1. The LA Dodgers
  2. The Houston Astros
  3. The Chicago White Sox
  4. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers

But what about teams like the Giants?

The San Francisco Giants are almost guaranteed to make the playoffs at 94.7%. However, they are just around 3.5% to win the World Series. But if we take a look back up, 3.5% is better than the NY Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays.

A couple of teams that should get an honorable mention here are the Milwaukee Brewers, who are listed with a 5;7% chance of winning the whole she-bang. Then, the Amazin’ Mets at 6.3% are actually the 5th most probable team in the league. Who would’ve thunk it.

Can the LA Dodgers Repeat?

I am not sure if they will win again, but I do believe they will make it back to the most significant MLB series of the year. In March, the LA Times released a headline that read, “The 2021 LA Dodgers will Be the Greatest team in MLB History.” That’s a bold statement. I cannot say that I agree with the author. However, they are pretty darn good, and although the Giants have a 2.0-game lead as of July 26th, the playoffs are a veritable gauntlet. It takes profound depth and team cohesion to make it through.

It’s not to say that the Giants don’t have the winning mentality or history as a winning franchise. But the LADs are in the thick of it. I believe we’ll see the Dodgers and the Astros in the Fall Classic. That’s my prediction for the 2021 World Series. The Dodgers have the No. 2 offense, scoring 5.20 runs per game, and the No. 3 defense, allowing just 3.75 on any given night. Over in AL land, the Astros pound in 5.35 runs per game—yes, No. 1 in the league. Defensively, they are 8th, at just 3.91 runs per game allowed. They are not as loaded on defense as the LADs but still a top ten defense with the No. 1 offense … you can’t argue with that formula.
