What Surprises Will MLB Trade Deadline Bring

Visits: 53

The trade deadline for Major League Baseball is 4 p.m. ET on Friday, July 30. Unlike in typical years, the league has advanced the deadline to avoid day games. If any teams miss out on registering a new player by then, they will have to wait for some big deals after the season. In this post, I will discuss potential agreements with the clubs that require a good season.

The Chicago Cubs’ Kris Bryant and Craig Kimbrel look likely to move on before the window closes. Bryant’s contract runs out soon, making him a free agent. Fans will not be too concerned about that considering his form over recent years has been gradually declining. Meanwhile, KimBrel has reaffirmed himself as a starter and has just had his first regular off-season in years, so big things are expected.

The Colorado Rockies have unambiguously declared that Germán Márquez would not be transferred, but that has not stopped sports betting in Colorado from seeing a lot of wagers that he will be on his way. Manager Bud Black believes that this trade deadline won’t do much for the club. The Rockies need a few offensive guys to develop their pitching core, but it seems doubtful that they will move around.

Because the Rays have a large pitching depth, it is doubtful that a deal would be worthy of a starting role unless the player improves the team. The Rays are allegedly interested in bringing Morton back, who is familiar with their organization. Furthermore, the Rays are looking to acquire a reliable hitter and an expert playoff starter.

One player that looks like he will be on the move before the window closes is Colorado Rockies’ Trevor Story. His contract is about to expire and there are no talks to retain his services. He had a poor campaign last time out, so it should come as no surprise.

In the last two years, the Cleveland Indians have entered into two agreements on deadline day. A few players are sought by the club to enhance their midfield players before the trade deadline. It is rumored that Cesar Hernandez is their main target that they want to conclude.

Texas is looking to keep Gallo as he had a great campaign and is in his prime. He will be offered an exceptional package as many teams would love to have him on their books. Texas is looking to move others that are past their sell-by date, which includes Ian Kennedy and Kyle Gibson.

The Boston Red Sox has a strong need for some initial output, especially from a left-hand batter. For Rizzo, who is a free agent after the season, it might be the best deal they can find. Franchy Cordero, Michael Chavis, or Bobby Dalbec may be offered by the Red Sox as none of them have excelled so far in the majors.

Ray’s right-hand Alex Cobb, who has a 3,82 ERA in 15 starts this season, is interested in the Angels. The Rays also showed an interest in Raisel Iglesias of the Angels. The Angels should stick with Cobb and attempt to develop an extension since they need to pitch forward.
